Never before have I see so many quick/easy wire taps, specifically the number of taps itself. Can’t have electrical Gremlins if the electricity can’t flow right?
Turns out it was a tap in the license plate lights causing the fuse to pop. Unfortunately I destroyed the housings when removing them but Ford has been using the same license plate bulb housing for 347 years.
Props to them for looming everything and including fuses... so many hidden fuses.
Edit:
And they’d tap right on the pigtail itself.

I hate those wire taps. A soldering iron and heat shrink tubing doesn’t take that long.

Electrical work and that pile of wires is nightmare fuel.

I found these sweet butt splices with pre installed heat shrink. Super convenient.

Jesusfuckingchrist.
Kill that thing with fire. You’re never gonna find all the hacked up harnesses or undo all the damage they’ve already done.

Especially since the process went - remove headlights and bulbs, replace fuse , pop, remove cab lights and bulbs, replace fus e, pop, remove side markers and bulbs, replace fus e, pop, remove tail lights and bulbs, replace fus e, pop, remove 3rd brake light, replace fuse , pop, REMOVE ALL OF THEIR EFFING WIRING AND WIRE TAPS, replace fus e.... Nothing. Sweet silence. Did ya know f250s have a lot of exterior bulbs?! At least 24!

I got a set of those for Christmas! I haven’t had a chance to try them out yet.

Thankfully I work on a gov’t project with tons of hodgepodge wiring jobs like this so I’ve gotten pretty good at unfucking nightmares like this. IE it’s fixed now, I’m justing waiting on some replacement pigtails and license plate bulb assemblies .

Yeah, except now you’ve got a bunch of burnt, shorted shit lurking in there somewhere. (Remember, I used to work on Chryslers .) It’s the gift that never stops giving until you replace every damn wire, connector, and computer in the damn thing.

Good lord. I felt my blood pressure rise and my heartbeat quicken just seeing that.

Oh trust, where every tap was I cut out and respliced. Definitely not taking any chances. And luckily a lot of it was installed independent from the truck's harness. I do have a hole in the dash I need to plug with a switch or something.
